Gary Burton is an American vibraphonist and composer, famous for his pioneering jazz piano style technique with four mallets (inspired by the music of Bill Evans) that made him a star among the younger generations of jazz vibraphonists over the last thirty years. He is one of the first who played fusion.
Burton has won many awards and recognitions. In 1968 DownBeat voted him Jazz Artist of the Year as the youngest jazz artist ever to reach that. In 1972 he won his first Grammy for “Alone at Last” featuring his solo concert at the Montreux Jazz Festival. He has won five more Grammy awards since.
